Biography

My name is Magnus Chenel. I am a music industry major w/ audio arts production minor, as well as the Operations Manager of WONY 90.9 FM at SUNY Oneonta. I am a performing and recording multi-instrumentalist. I perform all around the New York State, New Jersey, & NYC area with my band “The Witch” where I play guitar and keyboard, and I have been playing piano since the age of seven.

Música Española: Bridging the Gap Between Folk Music & Art Music in Spain
My presentation is titled, “Música Española: Bridging the Gap Between Folk & Art Music in Spain”. It is based on my time spent researching Spanish Classical Music at the Burgos International Music Festival in Burgos Spain studying under faculty advisor Dr. Adam Kent. While attending this music festival I had to learn two pieces of Spanish Classical Music. One piece being more folk centered while the other had more of an artistic core, both pieces representing specific aspects of Spanish classical music. Part of the work that i did regarding these pieces, was making them relevant in a modern context, performing them and understanding them with my current and achieved knowledge of music. My time in Burgos was a great experience that shaped the way I think about not just classical music, but music in general!
