Project

“History of Photography and Paris, France”
Paris, France, and it’s June. I am researching photography in Paris. I chose to examine the history of photography that resides in the city. I mainly had questions about how tourists and Parisians’ photography differed. I also wanted to research more about my prior knowledge of photography in Paris; thus, I went in hopes of gaining clarity on famous photographers. I used my time in Paris to view museum exhibitions of influential photographers’ work to back up my initial research on them. Furthermore, the physical aspect of seeing the exhibitions allowed me to fully immerse myself in the project. I continued my research as a photographer myself and used my experiences to further understand the possible environment that the artists were in. In my final assessment, the photographers I talked about all influenced the progression of photography in Paris. For example, Robert Doisneau was famous for his street photography and capturing the city of love and its people, highlighting their strength. While Lee Miller was a Vogue photographer with surrealist influences on her covers. Surrealism is a style utilized by photographers to bend reality into a dreamlike creation. They worked with different technics and styles. I was able to see these styles currently being used in today’s works.
